4 Ways I Actually Use Coconut Oil

[huge_it_share]Coconut oil is the god of all oils. You hear people saying “I use coconut oil for everything!”, in addition to some more funny sayings like: “pours coconut oil over entire life” and “put coconut oil on anything and it will make it better, your hair, your skin, your nails, your man”. While there are numerous ways to use coconut oil, here are the 4 ways I ACTUALLY use coconut oil (not like using it for deodorant (but I imagine it works) or use it to make mayo [who thought of that??])

OIL PULLING!

I talked about this already in detail here and in my healthy habits post here. By now you probably get the drift that I swear by this. I have noticed an incredible difference in my oral health – even my dentist commented on it (now that’s some serious evidence it works). I swish about 1 tablespoon of organic raw coconut oil in my mouth for 20 minutes! I usually read, scroll through Instagram, watch television or blog while doing it to help pas the time.

I ADD IT TO ALL OF MY SMOOTHIES

I add about 1/2 a tablespoon of coconut oil to ALL of my smoothies! I do this because it’s any easy way to incorporate coconut oil into your diet (I promise you can’t taste it). It helps to create a smoother consistency and ingesting coconut oil is really good for your health. It actually aids in increasing your metabolism to help shred some unwanted pounds!

DEEP CONDITION MY HAIR

Whenever I look at my organic, all-natural deep hair conditioners/ masks, the primary ingredient is coconut oil. Which made me think: Hey! I should just lather straight up coconut oil in my hair! And so I did. And it was miraculous. I now swear by coconut oil masks.

TO DO:

  1. Warm up the coconut oil ( in the microwave for about 10 seconds) or warm it up between your hands and massage into your hair, focusing on the ends.
  2. Wrap your hair in Saran Wrap to conduct heat and really get that coconut activated! Leave in for 40 minutes and shower (washing your hair as usual) or even better – sleep in it and shower the next morning!
  3. Ta-da! The silkiest and softest hair you have seen!

REMOVE STUBBORN EYE MAKEUP

One of the worse things you can do when removing your makeup is scrubbing at your eyes to remove that stubborn mascara. Talk about wrinkles!!! So when this is the cases and I’m having a hard time removing the 7 layers of mascara I applied earlier that day (and thinking it was a good idea) I grab my coconut oil, apply is on a cotton pad and gently press it on my eye. After holding it there for a few seconds (letting the oil settle into the makeup) I’ll swipe away from my eye (towards my temple) and voila! My mascara is all gone without any scrubbing and irritation.
